6 May 2026 - Vigo to Redondela
Kim
Waking up in NH Collection Hotel in Vigo seemed way too fast as we arrived late last night. The day started with breakfast as usual. We advised Julie that she could eat cake and still loose weight while walking the Camino. So, for breakfast she had a plate of churros, almond cake and pastries. The rest of us had either eggs or cereal. We took cake and pastries for morning tea.
The first part of our walk was through the streets of Vigo, it took about an hour to reach the outskirts of the city. Then the climb through the back streets started, up, up and up. Someone had opened up their garage and sold drinks, fruits and Louise and Alison bought a badge for their hats and we got a stamp.
We were still climbing up while admiring the view of Vigo. We found a spot on the side of the road on a narrow corner and had morning tea (obviously cake for all of us). We continued on the back streets (still up) until we reached the top. Once at the top it was a pleasant walk with great views of the Vigo estuary as we continued through a string of hillside villages and patches of woodland.
We stopped at Taperia O Eido Vello cafe for lunch. We had a Pilgrims lunch, Louise, Alison and myself had lentil soup, Santiago cake and a cup of tea. Julie had tomato and tuna pasta, (more cake) and a coke.
The next 5klms to Redonndela was a pleasant walk though trees and we came across a lovely waterfall.
The decent down to Redondela was steep and on a road. At the bottom there were discussions on whether we should walk up the hill to see a church, we opted for yes. Unfortunately, the church was closed when we got there, however we could look through the window and it was beautiful.
We decided to get an icecream from the cafe across the road. The cafe was in a culture centre and the locals gathered there in the afternoon enjoying each other’s company and playing cards. They quickly got our table when we left (I think we were sitting at their usual table
It was nice being among the locals enjoying themselves. The cafe organised a taxi to our accommodation (it was off the Camino Trail and we were advised to take a taxi).
Our accommodation was at Paza Torres de Agrelo. The gardens were magnificent.
